Virgil Abloh designs live on in capsule to benefit black scholars – Sourcing Journal

A new capsule collection continues the legacy of Virgil Abloh, the multifaceted designer who served as artistic director of menswear at Louis Vuitton and founder of luxury streetwear brand Off-White. The collection includes a varsity jacket, hoodie and t-shirt designed by Abloh and studio Off-White before his death in November.

Featuring the words “I support the Post-Modern Scholarship Fund”, in red, white and black, the range was created to benefit the fund of the same name. Abloh has organized the Virgil Abloh “Post-Modern” Scholarship Fund in 2020 to support the next generation of black fashion industry leaders. The initiative is run in partnership with the Fashion Scholarship Fund and will help fashion students of Black, African American or African descent find financial and career support. To date, more than 40 post-modern scholars have received college scholarships.

Off-White X Fashion Scholarship Fund capsule collection

Off-White, the Fashion Scholarship Fund and lifestyle brand-turned-publication Highsnobiety have collaborated to make the collection a reality, alongside a dedicated campaign featuring the first class of 2021 post-modern scholars.

“Virgil’s cultural legacy is one of those things that’s so great that we can’t quite understand its dimension from where we are right now in history,” said Thom Bettridge, editor. of Highsnobiety. “So to be able to contribute to that legacy in this way is a huge honor for us as a publication, as fans of him, and as chroniclers of his work. Creating new opportunities for young people was central to Virgil’s philosophy, and the Post-Modern Fund is such a powerful extension of that. »

The Off-White X Fashion Scholarship Fund capsule is available now exclusively on the Highsnobiety Shop website. All proceeds from fundraising go to the fund.
