Three Cougars All-MVC Scholar-Athletes

ST. LOUIS – Three SIUE male soccer players are among the 2021 Missouri Valley Conference male varsity athlete team winners.

Defender Max Broughton (Rawstenall, England), midfielder Oksar Lenz Hamburg, Germany) and goalkeeper Tor Erik Larsen (Alesund, Norway) were each awarded. Broughton and Lenz received first team honors while Larsen is an honorable mention.

Broughton has played in all 17 SIUE games. A natural defender, Broughton finished tied for first on the team with four goals and added an assist for nine points, good for the team’s second scorer. Broughton has a grade point average of 4.00 in Exercise Science.

Lenz finished third on the team with eight points. He scored two goals and added four assists, a record for the team. Lenz scored the game-winning goal on October 31 against Loyola. He has a cumulative grade point average of 4.00 in public health. Lenz was also an All-Mid-American Academic Conference selection after the 2020-21 season.

Larsen started 13 games in goal for the Cougars with a goals against average of 1.11, good for third place in the league. He racked up a 0.779 save percentage which led the MVC. Larsen has a cumulative grade point average of 3.90 in business.

The criteria for all-MVC honor parallels the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) standards for All-America academic voting. Applicants must be beginners or large reserves with a GPA of at least 3.30 (on a scale of 4.00). In addition, students must have participated in at least 75 percent of regular season games or played in the league tournament. Student-athletes must have reached a second year athletic and academic level at their institution (true freshmen and freshmen in red shirts are not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year in their establishment.
