Roma to host global discussions during International Education Week

0

The Graduate School and International Education will host a series of “Global Discussions” for faculty and staff from various parts of the world. Discussions will be moderated by Curt Rom, Associate Dean for International Education.

The information sessions are being planned in conjunction with International Education Week, November 15-19, at the University of Alberta campus.

Rom planned the conversations as a way to bring together the many faculty or staff who have connections around the world. “These sessions are informal conversations designed to learn what is happening in various parts of the world among those who have lived or attended schools or worked in various regions, or who conduct research within or with colleagues in various regions,” Rom said.

The goal of the Global Discussion is to share information and increase transparency about U of A connections around the world, thereby creating greater opportunities for collaboration and outreach to the international U of A network.

“We want professors in an academic unit to know if professors from across campus can work in the same international zone, or if there are other ways to partner in certain areas with those who know the area well. “Rom said. “At this time, we do not have mechanisms in place on campus to share this information with colleagues from different academic or research fields.”

Conversations will focus on three geographic regions during the IEW: Africa, Latin America and South / Southeast Asia.
